Running events
Do we have to stop using our signup tool?
No. Keep SignUpGenius, a Google Form or a group chat. Volunteers just check in on the day.
Do volunteers need an account first?
No. A coordinator can add anyone by name on the day, and they claim it later.
How long does it take to set up an event?

What if there’s no signal?

What if someone forgets to check out?

The record
We made a mistake after attesting. Now what?
Add a correction. It appears beside the original with who made it, when and why.
Can we send a student’s record to their school?
No. Only the volunteer (or their guardian) sends their record. That’s what makes it theirs.
Can a record be taken back?
An org admin can revoke it with a fixed reason. The link keeps working and shows it was revoked.
What if a volunteer changes their name?
Old records stay exactly as issued. New ones use the new name.
Data and privacy
Can another organization see our volunteers?
No. The database keeps each organization’s data separate.
Can SycaMore staff change our data?
No. Support has a read-only view, and attested hours can’t be edited by anyone.
What about volunteers under 18?
Under 13 can’t make an account. From 13 to 17, sharing needs a guardian’s email confirmation.
Does FERPA apply to us?
Not through SycaMore — it’s sold to volunteer organizations, not schools. A school opening a link a student sent isn’t a data-sharing agreement.
Cost
Is the free plan a trial?
No. It runs forever, and its records are permanent.
What if we stop using SycaMore?
Records already issued keep working. You can export your data to CSV at any time.
